Join a hands-on photo workshop where you’ll build skills through real practice and creative challenges—no experience needed.

 

Whether you’re just starting out or already love snapping pics, you’ll connect with neighbors, have fun behind the lens, and pick up a few new tricks.

No fancy gear required—just bring your curiosity and any camera or phone!

📅 Dates: 3-day in-person workshop 

  🕒 Friday, July 11th - 5:30 pm to 8 pm (Pizza and Photos!)

  🕒 Saturday, July 12th - 9 am to 1 pm

  🕒 Sunday, July 13th - 9 am to 1 pm

Meet John "West"

"West" grew up moving from country to country while his dad developed classified aerial photos in a darkroom for the Army—an early education in observation, adaptation, and the quiet power of the visual.

Today, West captures real moments on campus, in the community, and around the world. He’s worked in everything from documentary film and newspapers to product shoots and teaching visual arts, so he knows what it’s like to use photography in all kinds of ways.

Former President of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) and board member of the Town of Cary Cultural Arts Committee, he’s a champion of creative community, high standards, and ethical practices.

West brings that real-world insight into the classroom—making photography approachable, hands-on, and inspiring. He helps students and mentees see differently, think creatively, and tell stories that matter.

Get behind the lens and have some fun—no experience needed! You’ll pick up photo tips while enjoying pizza at Friday’s kickoff session, followed by 8 hours of hands-on workshops over the weekend.

  • The workshop includes Pizza during Friday's kick-off session.  All details, including dates, location, and what to bring, will be sent to your email after registration.

  • We understand that plans can change. If you need to cancel:

    • Cancellations made 5 or more days before the workshop start date will receive a full refund.

    • Cancellations made within 2 days of the start date will recieve a refund minus a $20 deposit. 

    • If the workshop is canceled by West, you will receive a full refund.
